Terminology Regarding some Gifts and Manifestations of the Holy Spirit |
|
Fruit of the Holy Spirit – Galatians 5:22 “What the Spirit brings is very different: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
Laying on of Hands: Mark 16:17, 18 “ These signs will accompany those who believe …. They will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” A person/s lay hands on ones head, shoulders, back or hands during prayer. The power received from the Holy Spirit is transferred from the person/s praying to the person being prayed over or for. The Gift of Healing is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Resting in the Spirit: John 18:4, 7 A person surrenders/relaxes and falls gently to the floor or falls into a chair/bench while being under the power of the Holy Spirit, usually at a healing service, mass or while receiving prayer. John 20:22 “Receive the Holy Spirit.” The person resting is touched by the Holy Spirit and could manifest peace, tears, sobs, joy. They are not to be disturbed during this experience. Some people do not rest in the Spirit while they are being prayed for/with. There is nothing wrong with that. God loves you as much as He loves those who rest in the Spirit. Catcher: A person who stands behind those receiving prayer. They do not touch or pull those who receive prayer. They are there to catch one if there is a tendency to rest in the Spirit. They may also be praying. Praying in Tongues: Romans 8:26-28 “In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.” 1 Corinthians 14:2 “For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to human beings but to God, for no one listens; he utters mysteries in spirit.” 1 Corinthians 14:4 “Whoever speaks in a tongue builds himself up….” Praying in tongues is a Gift of the Holy Spirit that God gives those who are baptized in the Holy Spirit. It is a spiritual language that most do not understand; it is a beautiful prayer language to God alone and for the building up of the community/church. Laughter, Tears, Crying, Heat to Different Degrees: These are feelings/sensations that the Holy Spirit blesses those who receive an anointing or when resting in the Spirit. Since our bodies are human flesh, we sometimes cannot contain a supernatural/Godly experience, so there are manifestations. Under the watchful mantle of Our Sorrowful Mother’s Ministry all are encouraged to surrender, trust and receive all that God wants for you during the retreat and prayer experiences.
